Working Animal Medical

Relief Camps

ACF holds donkey camps where its team goes out to different donkey/equine populated areas of the city to provide medical treatment, food, and water to the donkeys and to educate their owners on donkey behaviour and donkey handling. Working animals and their owners are one of the largest and most neglected communities in the country and ACF is one of the few organizations working for their betterment.

Owners are informed that treating their animals better will help them in the long run as a donkey is a donkey owner’s (daily wager) sole source of income. Such learning is carried out via social mobilization, capacity building and community awareness programmes. ACF donkey camps have gained immense popularity and the public has been educated in person and via social media on animals in a way that’s never been done before.

Alongside the donkey camps, we have designed a state-of-the art donkey cart. A regular donkey cart is usually broken with sharp edges, and imbalanced due to different size tyres. This is the primary cause of a donkey’s leg breaking or hoof getting injured and wounds on the donkey’s rear.

We have made a ‘token’ system for donkey owners to give them a cart free of cost if they adhere to certain SOPs of how to treat their donkey.

Side by side, we also provide soft humane harnesses that will not injure the donkey’s body. The norm has been to use nails in the mouth of the donkey & on the rear to make the donkey bleed to work. And slitting their nostrils. We have managed to stop these inhumane practices with soft harnesses that protect the body of the donkey from the course rubber that is used regularly that causes wounds.
